An 8-channel DVR (digital video recorder) records up to eight cameras at once. This range includes Hikvision, Dahua and PROLUX recorders, plus unbranded models, from 1080p up to 8MP.
How to choose
- Resolution: models are listed at 1080p, 4MP, 5MP, 4K and 8MP. Match the recorder to your cameras. Higher resolution shows more detail but needs more storage.
- Camera formats: hybrid recorders accept more than one camera type. Penta-brid models, such as the Dahua XVR5108H-4KL-X-8P and PROLUX PXD-5108HS-4K/X1, accept five.
- PoC: Power over Coax (PoC) sends power and video down one coax cable. The Dahua XVR5108H-4KL-X-8P and ProLux PXD-5208AN-4KL-X/8P are listed as PoC. Your cameras must support PoC too.
- Smart detection: AcuSense is listed on the Hikvision 5MP and 8MP models and the Prolux 4MP model. It is designed to filter alerts by people and vehicles.
- Compression: H.265 is listed on several models, and H.265+ on the PXD-5208AN. Both are designed to reduce storage use.
A recorder also needs a hard drive. Size it to your resolution and how many days you want to keep.
