Eight camera channels, five accepted signal types, one drive bay. That is the shape of the Hikvision 8-ch 5MP 1U H.265 AcuSense DVR (IDS-7208HQHI-M1/XT), a digital video recorder (DVR) for systems that mix analogue and network cameras.
What the specs mean in practice
- HDTVI, AHD, CVI, CVBS and IP inputs. The recorder adapts to each signal, so cameras in different analogue formats can share one unit.
- Up to 12 network cameras (IP, meaning cameras that connect over the network) can be connected.
- Recording up to 3K / 5MP Lite at 12 frames per second. This is the ceiling, so check your camera resolution against it.
- H.265 Pro+ compression produces smaller files than older codecs, so a given drive holds more footage.
- AcuSense deep-learning analytics separate humans and vehicles from other movement, which cuts false alarms.
- Facial recognition on 2 channels, or perimeter protection on 4 channels. Perimeter protection covers line crossing and intrusion detection. Plan around one or the other.
