Channels: the number of cameras a recorder can accept. Cameras: the quantity included in the kit. Recorder channels in this range: 4 to 32. Spare channels allow cameras to be added later without replacing the recorder.

A 4MP (four-megapixel) CCTV kit bundles a recorder, cameras and a hard drive. Each picture is about 2560 × 1440 pixels, which gives more detail than 1080p when you review footage.
What the range covers
Recorders come with 4, 8, 16 or 32 channels. A channel is one camera input, so the channel count sets the most cameras you can connect. Kits ship with 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 or 11 turret cameras, and some listings use bullet cameras instead. Hard drives run from 1TB to 14TB (TB means terabytes). Some kits are HiLook only. Others pair HiLook with Hikvision, Dahua, ANNKE or Prolux equipment.
How to choose
- Channels: pick a recorder with at least as many inputs as cameras you need. Spare channels leave room to add cameras later.
- Camera count: walk the site and count entrances, side access and outbuildings.
- Storage: a larger drive keeps more days of recordings before the oldest are overwritten.
- Brand pairing: where a title names two brands, the kit combines equipment from both.
4MP Kits — frequently asked questions
Turret or bullet: which body style suits me?
A turret camera sits on a small ball joint under a hood, so it is compact and easy to aim. A bullet camera is a longer tube, often chosen for a clearly visible deterrent. Most kits here are turret-based.
How much hard drive space should I choose?
Match the drive to your camera count and the days of footage you want to keep. In this range a 4-channel kit may carry 1TB, while a 16-channel kit can carry up to 14TB.
Can I connect fewer cameras than the recorder has channels?
Yes. An 8-channel recorder works with fewer than eight cameras, and the unused inputs let you expand the system later.
