Three variables apply: drive capacity, number of cameras recording, and camera resolution. Guide figure per terabyte, continuous recording, 3 cameras: approximately 7 days at 4K. Median for this range: 30 days. The estimate for each kit is stated on its card. Recording on motion only extends the period.
Channels and cameras: what is the difference?
Channels: the number of cameras a recorder can accept. Cameras: the quantity included in the kit. Spare channels: at least 1 on every recorder in this range. Spare channels allow cameras to be added later without replacing the recorder.

How to choose
- Resolution: 2MP suits basic identification; 5MP and 4K give sharper detail for reading plates or faces at distance — check the specific kit's camera spec before buying.
- Camera style: bullet and turret cameras are fixed-view; PTZ cameras (seen in the 2MP Hikvision kits) can be moved remotely to cover a wider area from one position.
- Channels vs cameras: every kit here is 4-channel with 3 cameras fitted, leaving one spare channel for a future addition.
- Storage: 1TB, 4TB and 8TB options are listed against otherwise identical kits — larger drives hold more recorded footage before older files are overwritten.

Each kit lists a recorder (4-channel in this range) with three matched cameras and a set storage size, such as 1TB, 4TB or 8TB.
What's the difference between bullet, turret and PTZ cameras?
Bullet and turret cameras have a fixed view once mounted; PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, used in some 2MP kits here, can be moved remotely to change the view.
Can I add more cameras later?
Each kit here uses a 4-channel recorder with only 3 cameras fitted, so one channel is left spare for a future camera.
