5MP Kits: FAQs
Recording period: how many days does a kit in this range keep?
Three variables apply: drive capacity, number of cameras recording, and camera resolution. Guide figure per terabyte, continuous recording, one camera: approximately 46 days at 5MP. Median for this range: 46 days. The estimate for each kit is stated on its card. Recording on motion only extends the period.
Channels and cameras: what is the difference?
Channels: the number of cameras a recorder can accept. Cameras: the quantity included in the kit. Recorder channels in this range: 4 to 32. Spare channels allow cameras to be added later without replacing the recorder.

What's in a 5MP CCTV kit
A 5MP CCTV kit is a matched bundle: cameras, a recorder, cabling, and a hard drive sized to your storage needs. 5MP (5 megapixels) gives sharper detail than 1080p (2MP), useful for reading number plates or faces at distance. This range spans 4-, 8-, 16-, and 32-channel kits, with bullet or turret camera styles and hard drives from 5TB up to 2× 10TB.
How to choose
- Channel count: match the recorder's channel number to how many cameras you need now — a 4-channel kit like the DS-2CE12KF3T/DS-2CE70K0T bundle suits a small property; 16- and 32-channel kits suit larger sites.
- Camera type: bullet cameras (e.g. DS-2CE17K0T) are directional for a clear "point this way" view; turret cameras (e.g. DS-2CE78K0T-LPTS, DS-2CE70K0T) give a compact dome-style mount.
- Storage: check the drive size against how long you need footage kept — kits range from 5TB to dual 10TB drives for longer retention on higher-channel systems.
- Recorder model: each kit pairs one recorder (e.g. IDS-7208HUHI-M1/XT, DS-7332HQHI-K4) to its stated channel count — check it matches your camera count before adding more cameras later.
5MP Kits — frequently asked questions
What does 5MP mean for CCTV footage?
5MP means 5 megapixels of resolution, giving sharper detail than standard 1080p (2MP) footage — useful for identifying faces or number plates.
What's the maximum number of cameras a 5MP kit can handle?
It depends on the kit: this range includes 4-, 8-, 16-, and 32-channel recorders, each paired with a matching number of cameras.
How do bullet and turret cameras differ within these kits?
Bullet cameras (like the DS-2CE17K0T) are directional, best pointed at a specific area; turret cameras (like the DS-2CE70K0T) are compact dome-style units.
How much storage do I need?
Kits in this range come with drives from 5TB up to two 10TB drives — larger drives suit higher camera counts or longer retention periods.
