The Prolux PXN-5216-16P-4KS2E 16 Channel 8MP 4K ePoE IP CCTV NVR records up to 16 IP cameras and powers them from its own ports. An NVR (network video recorder) stores and manages footage from network cameras.

What the specs mean for your install

• 16 channels: one camera per channel, 16 in total.
• Up to 8MP cameras: 8 megapixels is the 4K class of image, so the recorder suits 4K cameras.
• 16 built-in PoE ports: PoE (Power over Ethernet) sends power and data down one network cable. No separate power supply at each camera. The ports are Plug & Play, and ePoE means extended PoE transmission.
• 160 Mbps incoming bandwidth: the total data rate, in megabits per second, the recorder can take in from the cameras.
• HDMI and VGA output, supporting up to 4K display resolution: connect a monitor to either output.

Cameras and recording

The recorder supports H.264 and MPEG4 video compression. It works with ONVIF and third-party IP cameras. ONVIF is an interoperability standard, so you are not tied to one camera brand.

For alerts and searching, it supports VCA (video content analysis) detection, motion alerts and intelligent video search.

Storage and remote viewing

There are multiple hard drive bays for internal storage. Total capacity depends on the drives you fit.

Connect the recorder to your local network over Ethernet. You can then watch live and recorded footage through a web browser or dedicated mobile apps, from anywhere with an internet connection. Each camera also needs a network cable to the recorder.
