Cat5e cable for outdoor camera and network runs: this is bulk cable, not a ready-made lead, so you'll need RJ45 plugs or keystone modules and a crimp tool to terminate it.

The Connectix External Cat5e UTP Solid Cable 305m Black LDPE Outdoor Pull Box is a 305 metre reel supplied in a pull box with sequential metre markings printed on the sheath, so you can measure off exactly what a run needs and see how much is left. Overall diameter is around 4.8-5.0mm — worth checking against your RJ45 plugs, cable glands, conduit or duct before you order fittings.

Construction and use

• 4-pair, 24AWG solid bare copper, unshielded twisted pair (UTP), verified to exceed ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 parameters — return loss, insertion loss, NEXT and PSNEXT — across the 1-100MHz frequency range needed for 1000Base-T.
• Supports 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet across all four pairs, for IP cameras, PoE-fed devices, HDBaseT extenders, VoIP telephony and access control on a Cat5e-rated channel.
• Solid-core construction keeps insertion loss down on permanent link runs up to 90m — the figure to plan camera and switch positions around when linking remote enclosures or buildings across a site.
• Black LDPE/PE outer sheath, UV- and moisture-resistant, intended for catenary (aerial suspension), duct and façade installation outdoors.
• Carries a CPR Fca Euroclass fire rating, which covers external, non-riser use — it is not rated for internal riser or plenum spaces.

Terminating it

Use standard Cat5e RJ45 crimp tools, patch panels and keystone modules to build a compliant channel. The cable itself is the run between camera and recorder or switch; connectors, a patch panel, and — for PoE cameras — a suitably rated PoE switch or injector are separate items you'll need to complete the installation.
