Product Description
The Connectix Cat5e U/UTP Network Cable 1m LSZH Purple Solid Copper is a one-metre Ethernet lead for patching and short network connections. Here is what each spec means in practice.
What the specs mean
- Cat5e U/UTP: Category 5e cable made from unshielded twisted pairs. The twisting keeps crosstalk (interference between pairs) low.
- 1 metre: a short lead for patching and short links, such as switch to patch panel. It is not meant for long runs.
- 10/100/1000 Mbps: covers Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. Both ports at the ends of the link must support the speed you want.
- Solid copper conductors: carry data and PoE (Power over Ethernet) to devices such as IP CCTV cameras. A PoE-capable switch or injector must supply the power.
- LSZH sheath: Low Smoke Zero Halogen. In a fire it gives off less smoke and fewer harmful gases, which is why it suits enclosed public buildings such as offices, schools, hospitals and data centres.
- Purple jacket: lets you pick this cable out from others at a glance when managing a cabinet or patch panel.
Connecting it
The cable works with RJ45 connectors, patch panels, keystone jacks and network equipment. Typical uses are LAN infrastructure, data racks and the network side of IP CCTV systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this cable shielded?
No. It is U/UTP, which means unshielded twisted pair construction.
Can it carry PoE to an IP camera?
Yes. The solid copper conductors carry PoE alongside data. You still need a PoE-capable switch or injector to supply the power.
What speeds does it support?
It supports 10/100/1000 Mbps, covering Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet.
What does LSZH mean?
LSZH stands for Low Smoke Zero Halogen. The sheath reduces smoke and harmful gas emission if there is a fire.
