This range covers Connectix Cat5e network cable, the twisted-pair Ethernet cable used to link IP cameras, recorders and switches. It has five products in two formats: bulk cable and 1m cables.
How to choose
- Where it runs. Four products are listed as external or outdoor: the 305M external cable, the 1m outdoor PE cable, the 305m LDPE outdoor pull box and the 100m LDPE outdoor reel. PE and LDPE are polyethylene sheath materials. The purple 1m cable is not listed as outdoor.
- How much you need. The 100m reel and the two 305m options suit whole installs. The two 1m cables suit short links, such as camera to nearby switch.
- Conductor. The 305M external cable is listed as solid core. The 100m reel and the purple 1m cable are listed as solid copper. The 305m pull box is listed as solid cable.
- Sheath. The purple 1m cable is LSZH (low smoke zero halogen), a sheath type chosen where fire-safety rules call for it.
Bulk cable also needs connectors or jacks fitted at each end. Check that your run length suits the cable you pick.
CAT5E — frequently asked questions
Which Cat5e cables here are for outdoor use?
Four are listed as external or outdoor: the 305M external cable, the 1m outdoor PE cable, the 305m LDPE outdoor pull box and the 100m LDPE outdoor reel.
What does U/UTP mean?
It stands for unshielded twisted pair: the cable has no foil or braid screen. The 1m purple and 1m outdoor cables are listed as U/UTP.
Can I use the 305m or 100m cable without connectors?
No. Bulk cable has bare ends, so it needs RJ45 plugs or keystone jacks fitted before it can connect to a camera, switch or recorder.
