The Dahua PFS4218-16ET-240 Desktop , 16-Port Managed 2-Layer PoE Switch, 16 × RJ45 10-100M, 240W (SKU DH-PFS4218-16ET-240) sends power and video over a single network cable per camera. Power over Ethernet (PoE) means no separate power adapter at each camera.

What the specs give you

• 16 × RJ45 10/100M PoE ports: sixteen cameras or other PoE devices, one cable each.
• 2 × Gigabit combo ports: uplinks for connecting onward to a recorder or the wider network.
• 240W total PoE budget: shared across all ports. Add up the rated draw of each camera and keep the total under 240W.
• IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at and Hi-PoE: standard PoE, PoE+ and higher-power devices. The orange port is the Hi-PoE port, and it works with the PFT1300 PoE extender.
• 250 metre PoE transmission: reaches cameras beyond the usual 100 m Ethernet run.

Management and protection

This is a Layer 2 managed switch. PoE management covers power control and a real-time display of each port's consumption, plus PoE Setting, Event Statistics and Green PoE. Manage it through a web interface, or use ConfigTool to search for the switch and upgrade it.

Video transmission is non-blocking, and the design includes high lightning protection.

Before you order

Check each camera's PoE standard (af, at or Hi-PoE) and its power draw. Cameras that need Hi-PoE go on the orange port.
