Western Digital 500GB 3.5" SATA Hard Drives - Ideal for 24/7 continuous recording

The Western Digital 500GB 3.5" SATA Hard Drives for 24/7 continuous recording (SKU HDD-500GB-WD-R, MPN WD5000AAKX-60U6AA0) is the storage for a DVR (digital video recorder) or NVR (network video recorder).

What the specs mean

• 500GB capacity. This is the total space for footage. How long it lasts depends on camera count, resolution and recording settings.
• 7200 RPM (revolutions per minute). The platters spin at this speed.
• SATA III interface. SATA is Serial ATA, the connection most recorders use for internal drives.
• 3.5-inch form factor. This is the larger desktop-size drive, not the 2.5-inch laptop size.
• Advanced Format technology. Western Digital uses it to improve media efficiency and allow larger capacities.

Built for continuous use

The drive is described as ideal for 24/7 operation, which is how a recorder runs. It is F.I.T. Lab™ tested for compatibility and uses noise-reducing technologies. Free Acronis™ True Image™ WD Edition software is available for download.

What you need

Your recorder needs a free 3.5-inch SATA bay. The drive is listed as compatible with DVR and NVR surveillance systems. It also works with desktops, servers, NAS (network attached storage) devices and external enclosures.

Ordered with any of our CCTV kits or packages, it is fitted and ready to go, so there is no separate install step.
