Product Description
The PoE Extender 100m Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 PoE Repeater 802.3af/at (SKU POE-EXTENDER-100M) fits between two lengths of network cable. It carries Power over Ethernet (PoE) and data a further 100 metres beyond the standard Ethernet cable limit.
What each spec means in practice
| Spec | What you get |
|---|---|
| Up to 100 m extra | A camera or access point can sit further from the switch than one cable run allows. |
| IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at | Works with PoE switches and injectors that follow either of these two PoE standards. |
| Gigabit Ethernet | Gigabit data speed for bandwidth-hungry devices such as IP cameras. |
| RJ45 PoE input and output | One port takes the feed from the switch side. The other sends it on to the device. |
| Powered by the PoE input | No separate power supply, and no mains socket needed where the extender is installed. |
| Plug and play | No configuration to carry out. |
| Compact metal housing | Passive cooling vents let heat escape. |
The unit regenerates both the Ethernet signal and the PoE power, so the device downstream receives a refreshed feed.
What else you need
- A PoE source: a switch or injector supporting 802.3af or 802.3at. The extender draws its own power from this feed, so check the source's PoE budget (the total power it can supply) covers everything on the run.
- A PoE device at the far end: an IP camera, wireless access point or other PoE-enabled network device.
- Ethernet cable for both segments, before and after the extender.
Used in CCTV systems, outdoor camera installations, warehouses and large buildings.
