First check what your cameras plug into: a wired (coax) cable needs a DVR, a network cable needs an NVR. Then pick the number of cameras you want room for.

Picture quality
This range covers 4-channel recorders. A channel is one camera input, so each unit records up to four cameras. The range mixes two recorder types, so check which one your cameras need.
How to choose
- NVR (network video recorder): records IP cameras over network cabling. The PoE (power over Ethernet) models, such as the Prolux PXN-2104HS-4P/4K, Tiandy TC-R3104 and Hikvision K Series, power the cameras through the same cable.
- DVR (digital video recorder): records analogue-style cameras over coax cable. Multi-format models, such as the ANNKE D941BB (5-in-1) and Dahua XVR5104HS-I3 (Penta-brid), accept several camera types.
- PoC (power over coax): the Hikvision 8 MP PoC DVR sends power to compatible cameras along the coax.
- Resolution: the range runs from 1080p to 8MP. 8MP is the same as 4K. Match the recorder to your camera resolution.
- Compression: H.265 models are listed across the range. It uses less drive space than older formats.
What else you need
A hard drive is needed for recording, so check the model page for drive details. A higher resolution and longer retention both call for a larger drive.
4CH — frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an NVR and a DVR?
An NVR records IP cameras over network cable, while a DVR records analogue-style cameras over coax. This range includes both, so check your camera type first.
Does a 4-channel recorder work with more than four cameras?
No. Four channels means four camera inputs, so a fifth camera needs a recorder with more channels.
What does PoE mean on an NVR?
PoE stands for power over Ethernet. The recorder powers compatible IP cameras through the network cable, so they need no separate power supply.
