First check which recorder you already have: an NVR needs a network (IP) camera, a DVR needs a wired (coax) camera. Then decide how well you need to see in the dark.

5MP network cameras record five megapixels per frame, so there is more detail to zoom into on playback. This range covers turret, bullet, dome and PT turret styles from Hikvision and Hilook.

How to choose

  • Sound: One bullet model has a built-in microphone. Two-way audio models let you hear and speak to someone on site.
  • Deterrents: PIR (passive infrared, which senses body heat) and siren models can react to movement.
  • Night view: ColorVu and IR (infrared) models are both listed.
  • Smart detection: The DS-2CD3356G2-ISU is an AcuSense model with a 2.8mm lens, a wide view that suits a room or garden.
  • Weather: The dome and the fixed bullet list an IP67 rating for dust and water.

What else you need

Each camera takes one recorder channel. PoE (Power over Ethernet) models need a PoE switch or recorder port with enough power budget. The dome lists 256GB SD storage as a backup to the recorder.

5MP — frequently asked questions

What does 5MP mean on an IP camera?

It means the camera captures about five million pixels per frame. That gives more detail than lower-resolution models, especially when you zoom in on recordings.

Which 5MP models have audio?

The 3K Two Way Audio turret, PT turret and bullet with siren offer two-way audio. The 5MP Audio turret and the 5MP fixed bullet with built-in mic also carry audio.

Do these cameras need PoE?

The AI dome and the DS-2CD3356G2-ISU list PoE. Check each product page for the power method of the other models.

Will they work with another maker's recorder?

The dome lists ONVIF, an open standard that helps cameras and recorders from different makers work together. Check your recorder's compatibility list first.
