The Passive HD-CVI TVI AHD Video Balun Screw Terminal for CCTV UTP Cable (SKU BALUN-SCREW-BLACK-8MP) lets you run CCTV video over network cable instead of coaxial. A balun converts between the BNC connector on a camera or recorder and the twisted pair in the cable.

What you get

• BNC connector on one side, for a CCTV camera or a DVR (digital video recorder) input.
• Screw terminal on the other, for the twisted pair wires. You clamp the wires in. No soldering is needed.
• Passive design. The balun needs no power supply of its own.
• Cable: Cat5e or Cat6 UTP (unshielded twisted pair).

What else you need

A cable run has two ends, so plan for a balun at the camera and one at the recorder. Your camera and DVR must both support the format you want to send: HD-CVI, HD-TVI, AHD or analogue. Check the camera's power separately, because the balun itself supplies none.

It suits structured cabling jobs, where existing or new Cat5e or Cat6 is used for video. That covers residential, commercial and industrial systems. Screw terminals also make site fitting quicker than soldered or crimped joints.
