3M USB Extension Cable - High-Speed 2.0 A Male to Female

The USB Extension Cable Male to Female, 3 m Active USB 2.0 (SKU USB-EXTENDER-CABLE-3M) puts three more metres between a USB device and the port it connects to. It is black, and it is built as a repeater/extender rather than a plain lead.

What the specs mean in practice

• Active USB 2.0 repeater/extender: it is made for extending a connection, so it suits runs where the device's own cable falls short.
• 3 m length: the device can sit 3 m further from its host, without you replacing the device's own cable.
• USB A male to USB A female: the male plug goes into the host port or the end of an existing USB A cable. The female socket takes your device's USB A plug. Both ends are the same type, so it extends a connection and does not convert it.
• High-speed USB 2.0: it is made for USB 2.0 devices.

Where it fits

It is compatible with numerous USB devices, so it suits a wide range of uses. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is one example: it can extend the range of USB-powered CCTV cameras. It can also extend other connected peripherals.

What else you need

A host with a free USB A port, and a device with a USB A plug. Check both before ordering, because this cable will not change the connector type.
