Product Description
Two connector types, four fault types. That is the scope of the Ethernet LAN Tester RJ45 & RJ11 - Network Cable Tester NSS-468A (SKU NETWORK-CABLE-TESTER-HM-C102), and it is why the tool is quick to understand.
What the specs mean in practice
- RJ45 testing: RJ45 is the connector on Ethernet network cable. The tester handles Cat5, Cat6 and Cat7 (Category 5, 6 and 7) cable.
- RJ11 testing: RJ11 is the smaller telephone connector, so phone leads can be checked on the same unit.
- Open circuit: a conductor is broken, so that wire carries nothing.
- Short circuit: wires are touching when they should not be.
- Reversed connections and crossed wires: conductors are connected to the wrong positions.
Using it
Plug both ends of the cable into the matching jacks on the tester, then start the test mode. The tester analyses the cable and gives visual or audible feedback on its condition. Each end therefore needs a connector fitted before it can be checked.
Network technicians, IT professionals and telecommunications installers use this type of tester to find a cable fault before it is blamed on a camera, router or phone socket.
The product page also describes it as able to test coaxial cable, alongside RJ45 and RJ11 leads.
