Product Description
The Waveshare POE HAT 27670 FOR Raspberry Pi 5 powers a Raspberry Pi 5 from the Ethernet cable, so you don't need a separate mains supply at the install point.
What it does
PoE stands for Power over Ethernet. This HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) fits onto the Raspberry Pi 5's GPIO header and draws power from the Ethernet run, supplied by a PoE switch or a PoE injector. The Pi 5 gets data and power on a single cable.
It supports IEEE 802.3af/at (PoE and PoE+) with a 38–57V DC PoE input. The output is a regulated 5V, up to 5A, through the GPIO header. The power available depends on your PoE source and its power budget.
Where this helps
A Pi 5 used as an edge-compute or camera-adjacent device may sit where mains access is awkward: a loft, a ceiling void, beside existing PoE camera runs. One cable instead of two simplifies that install.
Compatibility
This HAT is designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5 and its GPIO header. The board measures 56.5 × 64.98mm and works with the Raspberry Pi 5 official case and official Active Cooler.
What else you need
The HAT draws power from the network cable and does not generate it, so you need a PoE-capable switch or a PoE injector on the Ethernet run.
- In the box: the PoE HAT, connection headers and mounting standoffs.
- Sold separately: the Raspberry Pi, the PoE power source, the case and the cooler.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit a Raspberry Pi 4 or other Pi models?
No. This HAT is designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5, not other generations.
Do I still need a power supply for the Pi 5?
No separate mains supply is needed at the device. You do need a PoE switch or PoE injector on the Ethernet run, and the power available depends on its power budget.
