Product Description

The N52 Neodymium Magnets: 30mm x 3mm Rare Earth Disc Set (SKU MAGNET-DISC-30MMX3MM) is a set of flat, round rare earth magnets in the N52 grade. N52 is the top of the common neodymium grading scale, so you get a lot of holding force from a thin disc.

What the size means in use

  • 30mm across: a contact face roughly the width of a 2p coin's larger cousin, a 50p piece being about 27mm. The wider face spreads the hold over more surface.
  • 3mm thick: a low profile. It sits close to a surface and suits tight gaps where a bulkier magnet would not fit.
  • Disc shape: one flat face on each side, so it can sit flush against a steel panel or be set into a recess.

What else you need

Neodymium magnets grip ferrous metals such as mild steel. They will not hold to aluminium, plastic, wood or non-magnetic stainless steel, so check the surface first. You will also need your own method of fixing the disc in place, such as a recess or a suitable adhesive.

Handling

Rare earth magnets are brittle and can chip or snap together hard enough to pinch skin. Keep them away from pacemakers, bank cards and sensitive electronics, and slide discs apart rather than pulling them straight off each other.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do 30mm x 3mm refer to?

On a disc magnet the first figure is the diameter and the second is the thickness. These are 30mm across and 3mm thick.

Will these magnets stick to aluminium or plastic?

No. Neodymium magnets hold to ferrous metals such as mild steel. Aluminium, plastic, wood and non-magnetic stainless steel will not attract them.

What does N52 mean?

N52 is a grade of neodymium magnet. It is the highest of the common grades, which means strong holding force for the size.

Are there any handling precautions?

Yes. Keep them away from pacemakers, bank cards and electronics. Handle with care, as they can chip or pinch skin if they snap together.
