Product Description

The N52 Neodymium Magnets: 20mm x 3mm Rare Earth Disc Set (SKU MAGNET-DISC-20MMX3MM) is a set of flat, round rare earth magnets for industrial and craft use.

What the specs mean

  • N52 is the grade. Among neodymium magnets, a higher number after the N means a stronger magnetic material, and N52 is at the top end of the common grades.
  • Neodymium is a rare earth magnet material. It holds far more force for its size than a ferrite (ceramic) magnet.
  • 20mm x 3mm is 2cm across and 3mm thick. For a disc, the first figure is normally the diameter and the second the thickness. That gives a wide, flat face that sits flush against a surface.

Using them

A flat face suits jobs where the magnet is fixed into a recess or bonded to a panel, with the exposed face holding to steel. Steel and iron attract them. Materials such as wood, plastic and aluminium do not, so those need a steel counterpart or a magnet on each side.

Handling

Neodymium is brittle and chips if two magnets snap together, so slide them apart rather than pulling. Keep them away from pacemakers, bank cards and electronic devices.
