Product Description

The Seagate Exos X16 ST14000NM001G 14TB 3.5" SATA Enterprise HDD 7200RPM is a 14TB hard disk drive for recorders, RAID arrays and servers. Here is what each spec means in practice.

What the specs mean

  • 14TB capacity: a large amount of room for continuous video. How many days it holds depends on your camera count, resolution and bitrate.
  • 3.5-inch form factor: the full-size drive that goes in a recorder or server bay, not a laptop-size 2.5-inch bay.
  • SATA 6Gb/s: Serial ATA, running at 6 gigabits per second. The recorder or controller needs a matching SATA connection.
  • 7200 RPM: the platters spin 7,200 times a minute, which gives consistent throughput for multi-channel recording.
  • 24/7 operation: built for enterprise and data centre use, with a high workload rating for multi-drive systems.
  • Seagate Secure: hardware-based data protection features.

Before you buy

Check that your NVR (network video recorder), DVR (digital video recorder) or server has a free 3.5-inch SATA bay. Check also that it accepts a 14TB drive, as maximum drive size is set by the recorder.

The drive is designed for vibration tolerance in multi-bay and rack-mounted enclosures. That suits RAID (redundant array of independent disks) setups, where several drives run side by side.
