This range covers five 14TB 3.5" SATA (Serial ATA) hard drives for CCTV recorders and NAS (network attached storage) units. Capacity decides how many days of footage you keep. The drive must also suit round-the-clock recording, which an ordinary desktop drive is not built for.

What the specs mean

  • 14TB: the space for recordings. The Toshiba MG07ACA14TE and Toshiba N300 are each shown keeping roughly 81 days for 4 cameras at 5MP.
  • 7200RPM: the platters spin 7,200 times a minute. Four drives here run at this speed. The Western Digital WD140EDFZ runs at 5400RPM.
  • Enterprise or NAS: the Seagate Exos X16 and Toshiba MG07ACA14TE are enterprise drives. The Seagate IronWolf Pro and Toshiba N300 are NAS drives.

How to choose

  • Confirm your recorder or NAS has a 3.5" SATA bay and accepts 14TB.
  • Work out retention first. More cameras, higher resolution or longer storage all need more space.
  • Pick a drive made for continuous recording, not a general desktop model.
